7 Warning Signs Before Booking a 3D/4D/5D Ultrasound

Your baby is too important to trust just anyone.

A pretty baby photo does not mean the person doing your scan has the right training.

Read this before you book.

What Every Mom Should Know

7 questions to ask before you pay.

01 WARNING SIGN

You Don't Know Who Is Scanning Your Baby

Anyone can buy an ultrasound machine. That does not mean they know how to use it properly.

ASK THIS Is my sonographer registered with ARDMS in OB/GYN?
AT BABIES FIRST GLANCE

Your scan is done by an ARDMS-registered sonographer with over 15 years of experience.

ARDMS is a national group that tests and certifies ultrasound professionals. You can check credentials yourself.

How to Check Any Sonographer

  1. Ask for the person's full name.
  2. Open the official credential lookup below.
  3. Enter their first and last name.
  4. Look for a current RDMS credential with the OB/GYN specialty.

02 WARNING SIGN

You Think a Cute Photo Means Your Baby Is Healthy

A nice photo cannot tell you if everything is okay. A keepsake scan is not a medical exam.

ASK THIS Is this a keepsake scan or a medical ultrasound?
AT BABIES FIRST GLANCE

We offer keepsake ultrasounds and separate medical ultrasound services.

Local doctors refer patients to us. Our diagnostic scans are read by a board-certified radiologist. A written report is provided.

Know the difference: Our 3D/4D/5D bonding scans do not include a medical exam or radiologist report. Medical scans must be booked separately.

03 WARNING SIGN

Your Ultrasound Uses More Exposure Than Needed

More ultrasound time does not always mean better pictures.

The AIUM teaches a safety rule called ALARA. This means using the lowest reasonable exposure for the shortest time needed.

ASK THIS Does your sonographer know how to limit ultrasound exposure?
AT BABIES FIRST GLANCE

Our bonding sessions are planned for 10 or 20 minutes and are done by an experienced registered sonographer.

Proper ultrasound use matters. Scan time alone does not prove safety.

What AIUM says: There is no single safe time limit for every ultrasound. Exposure depends on the machine settings and how the scan is done.
Think Before You Book.

If a studio cannot answer basic questions about training and ultrasound safety, think twice before choosing them.

04 FAMILY WARNING

Your Children Cannot Come Inside

Imagine arriving for your special day and learning that your children or family must wait outside.

ASK THIS Are kids welcome? How many guests can I bring?
AT BABIES FIRST GLANCE

Children are welcome! We allow unlimited guests, with seating for about 8 to 10 people.

Consumer tip: Guest and child policies vary by studio. Always check before booking.
05 BOOKING WARNING

Your Baby Hides and You Must Pay Again

Your baby may cover their face or turn away. Some studios may charge you again for another try.

ASK THIS What happens if my baby hides?
AT BABIES FIRST GLANCE

We may offer one free weekday rescan if your baby does not cooperate.

Our sonographer decides who qualifies. Eligible rescans must be booked the same day and completed within 21 days, per our policy.

Consumer tip: Read the rescan rules before paying. No studio can promise a perfect baby photo every time.
06 PRICE WARNING

You Find Out About Extra Costs Too Late

Imagine paying for a scan and then learning that photos, videos or other items cost extra.

ASK THIS What comes with my package? What costs extra?
AT BABIES FIRST GLANCE

We show you what comes with each package before you book. You can choose the extras you want.

Consumer tip: Check the full price, included photos, videos and extra fees before checkout.
07 SAFETY WARNING

You Don't Know if the Ultrasound Probe Is Clean

The part of the machine that touches your body is called an ultrasound probe.

If probes are not cleaned the right way, germs can spread from one person to another.

ASK THIS Are your ultrasound probes cleaned between patients? Is your equipment checked?
AT BABIES FIRST GLANCE

We take proper cleaning, equipment care and maintenance seriously.

What AIUM says: Ultrasound probes need proper cleaning between patients. Internal probes need a higher level of disinfection.
EXPERIENCE MATTERS

Your Baby Deserves Experienced Hands.

Don't choose a studio just because the price is low or the pictures look nice.

Ask questions. Check credentials. Choose people with real training.

Important: 3D/4D/5D bonding ultrasounds are elective keepsake services. They are not medical exams and do not replace prenatal care. Radiologist reports are provided for separate diagnostic ultrasound services.

The AIUM discourages fetal ultrasound performed only for nonmedical keepsake purposes. The official links above are provided for education. They do not mean AIUM, ARDMS or the FDA has approved or endorsed our studio or its elective bonding services.

The warnings about children, rescan policies and pricing are consumer booking tips, not medical safety rules.
