Frequently Asked Questions about Sneak Peek Gender DNA Testing.
How accurate is the Sneak Peek early gender DNA test?
Sneak Peek early gender DNA test is 99.% after 6 weeks of your pregnancy our facility alone has performed thousands of Sneak Peek Test and have not had any issues with the wrong gender. The only issue we have ever seen is an “inclusive test”. Nine times out of ten means that the mom is not 6 weeks and came too early to do the test.
I’m having twins. Can sneak peek determine the gender of each one?
Sneak Peek looks for male DNA in the fetal DNA found in the mom's blood sample. In the case of identical twins, if male DNA is found, then both babies are boys. If no male DNA is found, then both babies are girls. For fraternal twins, finding male DNA means at least one baby is a boy, but one cannot distinguish if the second is a boy or girl.
How does the Sneak Peek test work?
During pregnancy, cell-free fetal DNA is released by the placenta and can be found in the mom’s bloodstream. Using a small sample of mom’s blood, Sneak Peek tests for the presence of male DNA (Y-chromosomes). Y-chromosomes would only be present if the mom is pregnant with a boy. If no Y-chromosomes are found, the mom is carrying a girl. This method is known as noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT) and is safe for both mom and baby.
How are my results given to me?
You’ll get your results via email between the hours of 5pm - 9pm eastern time due to the fact that sneak peek lab is in California and they are 3 hours behind. Be sure to check all your folders including Promotions and Junk Mail in case your email filter redirects it.
Does a previous miscarriage affect my test results?
Clinical studies have shown that fetal DNA clears rapidly from the maternal bloodstream, within 1-2 days. Therefore, a miscarriage will not affect your current test results.
Can I use the Sneak Peek test if I’m not 6 weeks into pregnancy?
We know it's hard to wait! Sneak Peek looks for Y chromosomes in the fetal DNA found in mom's blood. To avoid “inconclusive test results”, it's imperative to wait until you're 6 weeks pregnant to ensure the level of Y chromosomes is high enough to read.
Is the test safe?
The SneakPeek Early Gender DNA Test is a non-invasive prenatal test (NIPT), and it's safe for both mom and baby.
What is the difference between Sneak Peek at Home and Sneak Peek Clinical?
With SneakPeek At-Home, you receive a test kit that provides everything you need to take the test, from the comfort of your home. Three lancets are included that you use to prick your finger to collect 7-10 drops of blood in a small test tube. The sample is then mailed back to SneakPeek Labs for analysis. This video shows the SneakPeek At-Home process from beginning to end.
SneakPeek Clinical lets you visit a participating location to have your blood drawn in a clinical setting. The clinic then sends your sample to SneakPeek Labs for analysis. We hope to see you soon here at Babies Fist Glance to collect the sample.
I’ve seen gender predictor tests that use urine samples. How is Sneak Peek different?
SneakPeek is a DNA test that looks for male chromosomes in the cell-free fetal DNA (cffDNA) found in mom's blood, a process that was first established in 1997 and refined in a multitude of scientific publications since. Urine-based tests have no scientific validity, as there are no gender markers in urine. See this blog post for more details.
